Michigan State raised over $1 million dollars on March 16 as a part of Give Green Day, a 24-hour fundraising event to enhance the experience of current and future MSU students in programs across the university.
According to the Give Green MSU website, there were 6,084 financial gifts given to the University yesterday totaling $1,166,500 combined for over 30 programs within the university.
The programs that received the most support on Give Green Day were MSU athletics and MSU alumni club scholarships, which both received over 1,000 donations. Their donations totaled to be $257,765 and $210,650, respectfully.
The James Madison College Emergency Scholarship Fund was the project that received the highest amount of donations reaching $34,074. Other projects near the top of the list in total money received were emergency or assistance funds for current students dealing with the burden of going through college during the pandemic.
Of the 31 featured programs on the Give Green website, 25 of them met their donation goal on Give Green Day, showing widespread support from MSU alumni for all programs at MSU.
There were a number of challenges throughout the day that led to bonuses in the gifts, including a $250 bonus to the first donor and first student donor.
In 2019, Michigan State received $1,637,903 on Give Green Day, marking the highest total raised on the day of philanthropic effort from Michigan State and its alumni.
