“It’s just exciting for us to be able to run out on our field, and hear the fight song, and put on the home whites and compete here in East Lansing,” Head Coach Jake Boss Jr. said in weekly availability. 

This past weekend, the Spartans faced off against the Fighting Illini and the Wolverines in a pod, walking away with two losses and two wins.

In their rematch against No. 22 Michigan, MSU shut out the Wolverines for the first time since 2002. 

With standout performances from freshman left handed pitcher, and a home run from senior Bailey Peterson, the Spartans walked away victorious. 

From Flushing, Michigan, freshman left handed pitcher Nick Powers has been a major powerhouse for the team. Pitching three games with an ERA of 2.76, he helped secure the Spartans’ win against the Wolverines last weekend. 

“We prepared really well the week before leading up to it, we knew it was gonna be a big couple games. So we took practice really serious,” Powers said during an interview. “We’re really focused and we executed everything very well.” 

Powers, along with the rest of the team, looks forward to competing against Indiana this weekend, their first rematch since April 21, 2019. 

“We’ve always been excited to play at home, we always take a lot of pride in playing well at home especially,” Boss Jr. said in an interview. “You know, guys are chomping at the bit to play a really good Indiana team this weekend.”

The Spartans will face off against the Hoosiers in a three game series starting Friday, March 26 for their first home game of the season.
