—Saturday’s game between Michigan State women’s basketball and Nebraska will not be played as the medical staff from each team advised against playing on Saturday afternoon.
According to an email from a Michigan State spokesperson, the issue that caused today's game to be canceled did not come from positive COVID-19 tests within Michigan State's program.
The Spartans had arrived in Nebraska on Friday night Michigan State, looking to avenge their loss to the Cornhuskers at home from earlier this season and it is unclear what medical issue prompted the pause on Saturday’s game.
The Spartans missed three games due to their COVID-19 pause in mid-January, including games against Michigan, Illinois and Indiana. Prior to that, the Spartans had missed one game on New Year’s Eve against Ohio State after they went on pause during the holiday season.
Two other games were postponed against Michigan as the Wolverines went on an extended pause after the UK variant of COVID-19 had been spread within Michigan’s various athletic programs. This matchup not being played will mark the seventh game Michigan State has missed this season.
The Spartans are currently 12-7 on the year as they battle for a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Michigan State will look to end their regular season on a high note against Wisconsin next Saturday.
