Meijer announced their partnership with the state of Michigan on Monday to administer up to 25,000 COVID-19 vaccines by the end of this week.
First priority is given to Michiganders 65 years and older who register online through the Meijer website. The vaccine prioritization is based on state and national guidelines, according to Meijer clinic officials.
Although first priority is given to higher risk individuals, Meijer encouraged anyone interested in the vaccine to register in a Monday press release. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plans on vaccinating all eligible Michiganders over the next few weeks.
The online registration process includes a short survey inquiring about the patient's health and if they are an essential or health care worker. Individuals can also register by texting “COVID” to 75049 or calling their local Meijer pharmacy.
Once patients register and the vaccine is available, Meijer will send a link with an invitation to reserve clinic dates and times. There is an option to accept, defer or be removed from the waitlist. If accepted, two doses must be scheduled through the clinic and there will be an automatic invitation after the first dose is received.
Vaccines are not guaranteed to be administered at the Meijer Pharmacy and patients may be invited to visit a Meijer offsite clinic, according to the registration site.
Meijer began administering vaccines mid-January and administered more than 20,000 doses in Michigan. Up to 1,200 vaccines were administered per day and this week’s aggressive vaccine schedule is going to continue, according to the release.
“I’m extremely proud of the amazing work our store and pharmacy teams have done to create a quick and efficient process for our vaccine clinics,” Jason Beach, Meijer vice president of pharmacy said in the release.
