MSU Board of Trustees to meet on Friday

The Michigan State Board of Trustees will hold their second meeting of the semester at 8 a.m. on Friday via Zoom.

Following a report by President Samuel L. Stanley Jr. and public participation, Interim Vice President Douglas Gage will present the Gift, Grant and Contract Report for the approval of the board. This comprises 767 gifts, grants and contracts in addition to 11 consignment/non-cash gifts totaling over $193 million for the period of Aug. 14, 2020 through Nov. 16, 2020.

In fiscal year 2020-21, gifts, grants, contracts and consignments totaled over $375 million.

Chairperson of African American and African Studies Ruth Brown will give a research presentation titled “Black Girl Genius.” According to the College of Arts and Letters website, Brown founded Black Girl Genius Week, a structured set of in-school and public activities centered on amplifying the collective power of Black girls and recognizing them as experts of their own lived experience.

Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Teresa Woodruff will present the personnel actions and information reports. Among these, the approval of Marlon Lynch as vice president for public safety and chief of police of the MSU Police Department, effective April 1, as well as a tenure appointment for Dean and Foundation Professor Linda Greene.

The Committee on Budget and Finance recommends commercial paper facility renewal, authorizing the delivery of Series G notes of the board. The Committee on Audit, Risk and Compliance recommends the reappointment of Plant & Moran as external auditors for the 2020-21 fiscal year as well as the approval of a contract between MSU and FibrosIX LLC, a Michigan limited liability company in which Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology Richard Neubig holds a financial interest. 

The committee also plans to give a notice of intent to negotiate contracts with the American Institute of Indian Studies. 

Reports by the Committee on Academic Affairs and the Committee on Student Life and Culture will also be given during the meeting.

Those interested in addressing the board through public participation must fill put a request to address form no later than 48 hours before the meeting.
