The Big Ten Conference Administrators Council, which includes the Directors of Athletics and Senior Women Administrators from all 14 member institutions, in collaboration with the Conference Presidents, Chancellors and conference office, approved the measures Tuesday morning.
The decision was based on multiple factors, the conference said in the release.
The first, and most important, according to the release, was the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, officials and conference constituents.
The conference announced in the release that hosting the men's and women's tournaments in the same location will allow for cohesive testing and medical protocols, "as well as centralized accommodations surrounding the venue."
Michigan State sits at 9-7 overall and 3-7 in the Big Ten. With their postseason hopes dwindling, the Spartans will need to make a jump up the standings or make a run in the Big Ten Tournament to firmly climb into the NCAA Tournament picture.
MSU can begin doing so as they continue their season Tuesday night at home against Penn State.
The postseason tournament for the conference will return to Chicago in 2023.
This is a developing story.
