East Lansing to host event, close offices on Veterans Day

East Lansing city officials plan to honor veterans at an event and close offices Nov. 11, Veterans Day.

Up to 25 community members are invited to a wreath laying ceremony Nov. 9. The event will take place at 11:30 a.m. at East Lansing's Medal of Honor Memorial and Veterans Monument.

Wreaths will be laid by East Lansing and Lansing-based 1st Battalion, 24th Marines to honor those who served in the armed forces.

Specifically, the event highlights East Lansing war hero 2nd Lt. Sherrod E. Skinner Jr., who received the Medal of Honor for bravery during the Korean War.

Masks will be required at the event.

On Veterans Day the following East Lansing offices will be closed, according to the release:

  • City Hall
  • 54B District Court
  • East Lansing Public Library
  • Prime Time
  • Department of Public Works

Hannah Community Center will remain open during regular business hours.
