MSU's virtual homecoming begins Sunday

Sunday marks the start of MSU's first virtual homecoming, with events hosted by the MSU Alumni Office, MSU Black Alumni, the University Activities Board and various colleges.

MSU Black Alumni will begin their homecoming events on Thursday, Sept. 24, celebrating their 40th year of festivities.

Sunday, Sept. 20

2020 Grand Marshal — Sparty — will kick-off this year’s homecoming. The event is set to start at 7 p.m. 

Part one of the interviews with the homecoming court will take place at 7:15 p.m. There will be five students interviewed.

Monday, Sept. 21

Part two of the interviews with the homecoming court will happen at 1 p.m. Five additional students will be interviewed.

The University Activities Board will host an MSU-themed trivia night at 7 p.m. where MSU students are eligible to win prizes from the Spartan Spirit Shop. 

Tuesday, Sept. 22

The Residence Education and Housing Services will be hosting an event that looks into the history of MSU, titled "Zooming through History."

The MSU Alumni Office is hosting an “Inside the Suit: Being Sparty” event. Alumni will share their experience portraying Sparty.

The University Activities Board will host a live calligraphy session at 7 p.m. 

Wednesday, Sept. 23

There will be MSU-themed workouts throughout Wednesday at 8 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Prizes will be given out at the end of each session.

At 10:30 a.m., President Samuel L. Stanley Jr. will have an online conversation about current events as well as the future of MSU.

Resident Education and Housing Services will host Campus trivia at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 24

Spartan Athletics will host a live event with men's basketball Head Coach Tom Izzo and women's basketball Head Coach Suzy Merchant at 7 p.m. Registration is required for a chance to win prizes, including a $100 gift card from the Spartan Bookstore. Registration will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23. 

Bingo will begin at 7 p.m., MSU students are eligible to win prizes. 

The MSU Black Alumni will host a student networking event at 7 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 25

Instead of a parade, the homecoming court will give “Well Wishes." This event starts at 6:45 p.m. 

The College of Music will host “Up Close" with the Spartan marching band. Marching Band officers and drum majors will talk about the challenges they have faced since going virtual. 

MSU Black Alumni will host their annual business meeting at 6:30 p.m. 

Saturday, Sept. 26  

Big Ten Network will broadcast the 2012 Michigan State vs Wisconsin game at 2 p.m. 

MSU Black Alumni will also host a “Green and White” pep rally at 6 p.m. 

Sunday, Sept. 27 

MSU Black Alumni will end homecoming week with the "Distinguished Alumni and Scholarship Recipient Event" at 4 p.m.

On-demand events will also be available throughout the week, including free movies and the Spartan Marching Band's halftime performances.
