The first of four finalists for Michigan State's chief diversity officer position — Nathan Ziegler — will be beginning his virtual visit to campus Aug. 27, with an Zoom open forum Aug. 28.
Each finalist has a full day of meetings to interact with administrators, faculty, staff and students. Each finalist will also host an open forum on Zoom, where they will share their personal background and interest in this position and discuss their vision for the CDO role, followed by a moderated Q&A session.
Ziegler's forum will be held at 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Pre-registration is required for the forum. Sign-ups are available here.
Ziegler is currently the vice president of culture and inclusion for Bon Secours Mercy Health, a Catholic health care ministry and one of the 20 largest health care systems, with 50 hospitals. Previously, he served as its director of diversity and inclusion.
He previously worked as the director of diversity, inclusion, equity and access at South Dakota State University. He was also the Founding Director for the English Language and Culture Institute at the university. Additionally he has been an English professor at Korean colleges and Owens Community College in Ohio.
The other three finalists will be visiting through Sept. 9.
Ziegler received his B.A. in Spanish, M.A. in English and Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Toledo.
