—The Associated Students of Michigan State University, or ASMSU, and the International Students Association, or ISA, will be hosting a webinar with MSU President Samuel L. Stanley Jr. regarding the new regulations made by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The webinar will be held July 15 at 3 p.m. Students can submit questions for Stanley through a Google form that will be posted the morning of the webinar through ASMSU's social media.
“This webinar is paramount because in moments of despair, the decentralization of information must be a priority,” ASMSU President Abii-Tah Bih said in a release. “Instead of serving as the megaphone for the student voice, this platform will permit international students to speak for themselves and to receive firsthand reassurance from the president of their university.”
ISA president Chittawan Boonsitanon hopes this will provide students a chance to speak with administrators and for Stanley to reach out to the international student community.
The ISA held an emergency meeting last week to discuss some student concerns with the Office of International Students and Scholars.
The new regulations are requiring international students under F-1 and M-1 visas to leave the U.S. if they are not taking any classes online.
MSU has joined 58 other institutions of higher education in filing an amicus brief in support of Harvard and MIT’s motion for a preliminary injunction on the new regulations.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has joined a coalition of attorneys general filing a lawsuit to stop these regulations.
