After shutting down voluntary practices when one football staff member tested positive for COVID-19, another football staff member has tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, which led the football program to ask all members of the football team to quarantine or isolate for the next two weeks.
Michigan State football team to quarantine after 2nd staff member tests positive for COVID-19
According to the release, the university will provide housing for quarantine as needed.
Earlier this week, Michigan State football had shut down voluntary practices after the first staff member had tested positive right as the program was set to begin their 20-hour work week this Monday. These 20-hour practices would involve eight hours of weight lifting and conditioning, six hours per week for walk-through practices with no pads or helmets, and six hours of team meetings.
Jordan Reid, who is a starting offensive lineman for the Spartans, had questioned earlier in the day why college football would be happening with everyone testing positive in sports.
With a new staff and a lack of in-person practices, the football program will be a few steps behind others while preparing for the possible 2020-2021 season ahead.
