From July 20-24, Michigan State conducted COVID-19 testing on 122 student-athletes, resulting in 16 positive tests and four positive tests for athletic staff members. The two staff members and one student-athlete who had tested positive last week were included in those numbers.
16 Michigan State athletes and 4 athletics staff test positive for COVID-19
These new testing numbers come after the MSU football program began a 14-day quarantine after two staff members had tested positive for COVID-19. That two week period started on July 22, and will end on Aug. 5.
According to the release, student-athletes who have tested positive will be provided housing for those who need it, as well as daily check-ins with the athletic training staff.
The NCAA has currently pushed a decision on whether to have fall sports as scheduled to Aug. 4 as many schools continue to have COVID-19 outbreaks like Rutgers, who also followed suit by quarantining their football program after six positive tests.
