ELPD searching for 2nd individual involved in exchange of gunfire in local neighborhood

East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) is investigating an exchange of gunfire that occurred on Saturday evening, according to a statement from the city.

Two individuals exchanged gunfire at approximately 8 p.m. June 20, according to the statement. The incident occurred on Highland Avenue near Westview Avenue in an East Lansing neighborhood.

According to the statement, ELPD was able to locate and stop one vehicle, resulting in one arrest.

"Alonte Wilson, a 24-year-old man from Chicago, ... with Lansing ties, was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon in connection with this incident," the statement said. "He has posted bond on this charge."

According to the release, ELPD is still working to identify the second vehicle and individual involved.

No injuries have been reported at this time. However, rounds fired during the exchange damaged personal property in the area, according to the release.

Based on initial investigations, ELPD stated in the statement that they believe this incident was a result of road rage. ELPD Capt. Chad Connelly said no additional information on vehicle or individual description can be provided at this time.
