Wharton Center announces 2020-21 season lineup with 5 Broadway hits

Despite the last few months dealing with the unprecedented outbreak of COVID-19, the Wharton Center at Michigan State has officially announced its 2020-21 season lineup, including five new Broadway hits and the continuation of its Performing Arts Series showcasing some of the best performing artists in the world.

"Wharton Center is ready to move forward and do what we do best: present the finest of the performing arts," Wharton Center Executive Director Mike Brand said in a press release. "We are as excited as ever to announce a new Wharton season. The 2020-2021 season offers opportunities for our patrons to relax, have fun, and enjoy experiences that we are confident will make lifelong memories." 

Among the five Broadway shows is "Mean Girls," the hilarious musical created by book writer Tina Fey, composer Jeff Richmond, lyricist Nell Benjamin and director Casey Nicholaw. Also included is "Pretty Women: The Musical," which promises to "lift your spirits and lighten your heart." 

The Wharton Center will also welcome the Broadway phenomenon "Jesus Christ Superstar," which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The show is set during the final week of Jesus Christ's life and the events that occurred from the eyes of Judas. 

The record-breaking musical by Andrew Lloyd Weber, "CATS" will also come to the Wharton stage, which tells the story of one night when a tribe of cats gathers for an annual ball to celebrate and decide which cat will be reborn. 

Disney's "Frozen" is also being shown at the Wharton with an unforgettable theatrical experience for the whole family.

Mean Girls — Dec. 8-13, 2020

Jesus Christ Superstar — Jan. 26-31, 2021

Pretty Women: The Musical — Feb. 16-21, 2021

CATS  May 11-16, 2021

Disney's Frozen  July 7-18, 2021

The Wharton Center's 2020-21 season lineup also includes a Performing Arts Series including the world-renowned brass quartet Canadian Brass.
