The Capital Area Transportation Authority, or CATA, announced on Tuesday it will temporarily close its downtown Lansing transportation center at 420 S. Grand Ave. to contain any further spreading of the COVID-19 virus.
While in-person transactions at the transportation center will temporarily be suspended, riders can still board buses using its current bus pullouts, according to CATA's website.
“In addressing the unprecedented impact of COVID-19, CATA continues to make employee, rider and public safety its top priority,” CATA Chief Executive Officer Bradley T. Funkhouser said in a statement.
In addition to the transportation center’s closure, some routes will experience service reductions that will increase wait time between bus stops.
“Our goal at this time is to respond as quickly and fluidly as possible to aid in regional containment efforts," the statement said. "As new developments related to COVID-19 arise, CATA may effect additional service adjustments.”
Tuesday’s changes will take effect starting Wednesday, March 18.
