—The investigation into the death of Alaina Grace Hopkinson has officially closed, according to Michigan State University Police Department, or MSUPD, Captain Doug Monette. The Ingham County Prosecutor's Office determined Hopkinson died of complications of a medical condition.
Hopkinson died on Sept. 28, 2019 while visiting her friends at MSU. She was a 17-year-old freshman at Grand Valley State University.
She was found unresponsive in a residence hall around 6 p.m. and did not appear to be breathing after taking a nap.
She was then transported to Sparrow Hospital by emergency personnel, where she was pronounced dead.
MSUPD received notification of this conclusion on Jan. 24 after prosecutors reviewed the investigation and Hopkinson's autopsy report, according to Monette. No foul play was determined, therefore, there are no criminal charges pending in regards to this incident.
