State News General Manager Christopher Richert.

I am delighted to introduce myself, serving as general manager and carrying on the legacy of The State News. I bring with me more than a decade and a half of college media management experience and creative knowledge to this award-winning media company.

The current group of State News students holds an insane amount of spark and passion for serving the needs of our readers, independently and with the highest ethics and integrity. While I am not a State News alumnus, I know this energy has transferred from staff to staff over the last 110 years.

I hold the highest respect and admiration for all of our State News alumni, as well as my predecessor, former general manager Marty Sturgeon. Without her strong business acumen, endurance, tenacity and continued counsel, The State News would have been in a much different place when I started.

The media landscape has changed over the last decade. Still, I thrive on challenges, so I will identify ways to improve the operations, technology, pedagogy and student experience, and work tirelessly to keep The State News as one of the most nationally recognized, rigorous and sustainable student media groups in the country.

I am looking forward to meeting each of you and working with you to continue to build our alumni network and strengthen the bond between our S'News alumni and student staff.

Among my spring 2020 goals are to help connect alumni with the student staff of similar interests, offer more opportunities for social activities and celebrate and highlight your successes on our new State News alumni portal, as well as raise more funds for students.

I expect to hear your feedback, comments, new ideas, and, most of all, your memories. Please reach out via email: alumni@statenews.com or stop by and visit us. If you really want to meet me, look around the MSU and East Lansing area for my blue Subaru Legacy with this license plate:

Until the next newsletter, I wish you my best and GO GREEN!

Always,

Christopher Richert
