Midfielder Ken Krolicki (22) attempts to block Akron midfielder Pau Belana (13) on a pass during the first half of the game on Oct. 11, 2016 at DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field. The Spartans defeated the Zips, 2-1.

Michigan State men's soccer fell 1-0 to No. 10 Indiana in their final game of the regular season on Sunday at DeMartin Stadium.

The Spartans battled it out against the Hoosiers in hopes of ending their regular season on a better note than they started it. Michigan State topped Indiana (12-2-3 overall, 7-1-0 in Big Ten) in possession percentage, 55-45 and the two teams were even at 10 shots on goal each.

"All in all, we played really good soccer today. I thought we played things that will help us win, and I was proud of the team's effort. We've got to execute a couple things a little bit better, but I think if we play like this in the quarterfinals, we've got a chance," Head Coach Damon Rensing said.

The first half proved to be a back-and-forth affair with the Spartans and Hoosiers swapping scoring opportunities often. The Hoosiers took the lead in the 29th minute when Jack Maher scored a goal off of a penalty kick.

"It's disappointing on the penalty," Rensing said regarding the foul on Indiana's Victor Bezerra in the box that lead to the Hoosier's game-winning penalty kick. "I think the (referee) made a good call, I just mean disappointing that we gave it up," Rensing said.

In the second half, the Spartans couldn't make a comeback. Michigan State had two close scoring chances, but they couldn't put either into the goal to catch up with the Hoosiers.

Sunday also was Senior Day for the Spartans, which was celebrated in a pregame ceremony.

"This Michigan State soccer family's close, and what I really appreciate about it is, we had a lot of support last year when we made the College Cup run and we still get that support. Maybe we're not having the best year, so it's great to see guys come back and support them," Rensing said. "I'm really proud of Michael PimlottMichael WetunguGiuseppe Barone and Cody Sweatte. They've had great careers here and nobody ever has a perfectly smooth path of four years, not everything works out exactly the way you want to, but what I've been proud about all four of those guys is they've handled themselves with dignity and class and represented Michigan State. They're great students and I'm really proud of all four of them."

The loss brings Michigan State's record to 3-11-3 overall and 1-6-3 in the Big Ten. Their record puts them as the No. 6 seed going into the Big Ten tournament where they will first face off No. 3 seed Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
