—East Lansing Police Department has continued to investigate MSU Hillel's report of malicious destruction of property at their location on 360 Charles St. The incident occurred Oct. 19.
“There was a religious structure outside of the building, the main building, called a Sukkah,” ELPD Deputy Chief Steve Gonzalez said. “There were a couple of individuals that had walked through the area and they were captured on their security cameras doing damage to that structure.”
A Sukkah is a structure built for the festival of Sukkot, which pays tribute to the time the Israelites lived in the wilderness after being freed from Egypt.
MSU Hillel is a group that seeks to welcome Jewish students on and off campus and inspire them to commit to a Jewish life, according to their mission and vision statements.
Those at MSU Hillel have been proactive in distributing the photos of the individuals who damaged their property which generated an influx of tips for ELPD investigators, Gonzalez said.
“None of those tips have lead to the identification of the suspects at this point,” Gonzalez said.
