MADISON, Wisc. — Just as Michigan State's tight end group began to solidify themselves as capable downfield weapons, the injury bug struck one of its most athletic players.

Redshirt freshman Trenton Gillison did not dress for the Spartans for their game at No. 8 Wisconsin this afternoon (3:30 p.m. ET). Gillison — out of Pickerington, Ohio — had emerged over the past two games for MSU, catching four catches for 46 yards, three of which came in the Spartans' 34-10 loss at Ohio State last Saturday.

A position that hadn't received much production since the days of Josiah Price, had found some reliable pass-catchers in Gillison, Matt Dotson and Matt Seybert. The trio has combined for 28 catches, for 312 yards and four touchdowns — three from Seybert and one from Dotson.

But, with Gillison out, Seybert and Dotson will have to pick up some of the momentum that the 6-foot-4, 249-pounder had gained over the past two weeks.

Cornerback Shakur Brown missed his sixth consecutive game for the Spartans by not making the trip to Madison. Other notables who did not dress for MSU include: WR Cam Chambers, RB Alante Thomas, and offensive linemen Cole Chewins, AJ Arcuri, Kevin Jarvis and Blake Bueter, who have all dealt with injuries throughout the course of the season.
