After sitting on the bench for the majority of the Spartans' Final Four and Big Ten Championship season, Michigan State men’s basketball guard Joshua Langford will debut back on the court when the Spartans face off against the University of Kentucky Nov. 5.
Langford set to play in Champions Classic
Joshua Langford (1) watches his teammates on the court during the game against Michigan on March 9, 2019, at the Breslin Center. The Spartans defeated the Wolverines, 75-63.
Langford's health has been in question since he was injured in December 2018. During Wednesday’s Big Ten media day, Head Coach Tom Izzo described Langford’s health as a “question mark.” However, Izzo addressed that Langford has been participating with the team during the last two and a half weeks.
“It's just the unknown of how long it'll take to get him back to where he was playing last November, December and part of January before he got hurt,” Izzo said. “I think he's a key guy for us because at 6'5" he can really shoot it. But he's kind of like a Gary Harris, he's a two-way player. He's one of our best defenders, and losing McQuaid, we're going to need a perimeter guard that can defend.”
Prior to his injury, Langford was a stand out player for the Spartans, shooting 44.3% overall and 40.3% from 3-point range. During the 2017-18 season, Langford started in all 35 games, ranking fourth on the team in scoring.
The Spartans will take on the Wildcats as part of the Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York city. University of Kansas and Duke will also play as part of the Classic.
