Following a record year for student civic engagement at Michigan State, the Associated Students of Michigan State University, or ASMSU, have announced they are holding a City Council candidate debate on Monday, Oct. 14.
The debate will be held in room 115 of the International Center at 6:30 p.m.
All six candidates for East Lansing City Council — Erik Altmann, Lisa Babcock, Jessy Gregg, Mark Meadows, John L. Revitte and Warren Stanfield III — will be present.
The candidates will exchange views on certain issues and address their stances on key topics going into the election on Nov. 5.
The forum intends to provide students with an opportunity to learn about the potential candidates who will be representing them following the general election, a press release said.
Events like these are part of ASMSU’s continued efforts to get students involved in the democratic process. In 2018, voter turnout on campus increased by over 300%, and similar numbers are expected this election season.
