Lime scooters are now available in Lansing and East Lansing as of Wednesday Sept. 25, but are not allowed to stop on MSU's campus.

Lime's license to operate in East Lansing was approved last week, but riders cannot end rides on MSU's campus due to the university's exclusive agreement with Gotcha.

Gotcha scooters were expected on campus Monday Sept. 23, but again faced delays.

"From the city's perspective, we have a license that any company can apply for as long as they're in compliance with our ordinance and they are approved for use in the city," Tom Fehrenbach, East Lansing's Director of Planning, said.

Lime will have 300 scooters available in Lansing and East Lansing, but must depart from designated hubs.

"We will not be operating on the MSU campus but scooters will still be able to be used on public roadways that run through campus," Lime director of communications Russell Murphy said. "Riders cannot end a ride on MSU campus. Our operations team will monitor campus to pick up any scooters that are left on public roadways on campus."

The app warns riders that if they park on campus, they may receive a fine.

Any Lime scooters left on campus will be impounded at the cost of the scooter company as a condition of the exclusivity agreement with Gotcha, a spokesperson from MSU Police said. Lime did not respond by press time as to whether the price of the impound would be forwarded onto its last user.
