Former Marquette Power Forward Joey Hauser announced Tuesday on Twitter his intention to transfer to Michigan State. The Stevens Point, Wisconsin native will be forced to sit out the 2019-20 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

“We’re very excited to add Joey Hauser to our roster and welcome him to the Spartan family,” MSU coach Tom Izzo said in a news release from the school. “Joey is a kid we recruited out of high school and we were very familiar with him and he knew us. We believe in him as a person and really love what he brings to the table as a player. He’s a hard-working player who is versatile, has a high basketball IQ and is a winner.  We think he’ll be a great addition for our program.”

Hauser was named to the All-Big East Freshman Team last season after averaging 9. 7points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in Marquette coach Steve Wojciechowski's up-tempo offense.

Hauser and his brother Sam announced their intentions to leave the Marquette program last month and were initially linked to rival Wisconsin, but made simultaneous announcements Tuesday: Joey to MSU, and Sam to defending national champions Virginia.

With the departures of seniors Matt McQuaid and Kenny Goins, as well as junior Nick Ward choosing to leave school early to enter the NBA draft, MSU had retained one open scholarship after Jaren Jackson Jr. left school early the season before. Hauser will fill that scholarship while sitting out the 2019-20 season.
