The East Lansing Farmers Market opens for the season Sunday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Valley Court Park, 280 Valley Court, located steps from downtown East Lansing. The 2019 market season will run June 2-Oct. 27 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Sunday.
Mayor Mark Meadows will open the season with the ringing of the “market bell” on opening day at 10 a.m. Free goodies such as reusable East Lansing Farmers Market bags will be given to the first 150 customers. Jenny’s Sweets & Treats will provide free cookies and there will be a face painter and other giveaways.
There will be live music on opening day, with Pooh Stevenson playing from 10 a.m.-noon and Marilyn Tennant from noon-2 p.m. The market will feature two performances each week.
The East Lansing Farmers Market is a Michigan farm-grown only market, and all vendors are required to grow their own produce. This year, the East Lansing Farmers Market is introducing the Coalition’s Power of Produce Club, which will teach children about the benefits associated with a healthful diet. Parents will be able to sign their kids up at the market and receive coupons to spend on produce.
The East Lansing Farmers Market accepts SNAP and Bridge Cards, which allow EBT customers to also benefit from the market. The Double Up Food Bucks Program allows customers to receive a dollar for dollar match, up to $20, to spend on produce at the East Lansing Farmer's Market.
