The softball team will host their first night game of the season against Oakland, taking a break from their conference schedule. With the newly installed lights on the field, the team will not have to only play day games any longer.
On March 31, the Spartans faced their second loss at Indiana with a score of 15-2 in their three-game weekend series. Three team members had base hits, including freshman catcher/third baseman Charla Echols, senior third baseman Kaitlyn Eveland and senior designated player Lexi White. Sophomore pitcher Alli Walker and redshirt freshman pitcher Leah Shipp each struck out one player from the Hoosiers, with Walker pitching 2.2 innings and Shipp pitching 1.1.
This is the first time since 2011 that the Spartans will play Oakland again, as they had a double header in East Lansing on April 27 eight years ago. The Spartans won their first game 8-0, but lost the second game 3-5, meaning that the team is ready to make a comeback on their home field.
The Spartans have a 1-3 home game record, where Oakland has yet to host a game at their own field. The first time they will play at home will be Friday after the game.
After Oakland, the Spartans will host Maryland for a three game series at Secchia Field.
