The Spartans moved up three spots from No. 9 to No. 6 in the AP Poll after two home wins against Nebraska March 5, and then-No. 7 Michigan March 9. They keep their spot in the top ten moving into the Big Ten Tournament starting March 13.
After beating Michigan on senior night, the team, along with No. 11 Purdue, are the Big Ten Champions for the 2018-19 regular season. This places Michigan State at the No. 1 seed for the Big Ten Tournament, starting play March 15.
March 9 was a big upset day in the NCAA, with No. 22 Auburn defeating then-No. 5 Tennessee 84-80 and Seton Hall upsetting then No. 23 Villanova 79-75.
