Gov. Whitmer and former quarterback Cousins to speak at commencements

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and former Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousins will speak at Michigan State's graduation commencements, according to a university press release.

Whitmer will speak at MSU's advanced degree graduation at 3:30 p.m., May 3, and receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree, the release said. Cousins will speak at the undergraduate convocation at 1 p.m., May 3, and receive an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree.

Both the advanced degree graduation and the undergraduate convocation will be held in the Breslin Center and will be live-streamed on MSU's commencement website.

Whitmer taught at MSU and graduated from MSU's College of Law as Magna Cum Laude.

Cousins is currently the starting quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings and played on MSU's football team from 2009 to 2011.

Other honorary degree recipients include CEO of Demmer Holdings Inc. William Demmer, who will receive an honorary Doctor of Business degree at the undergraduate convocation, and President of research organization Fraunhofer-Gelleschaft Reimund Neugebaur, who will receive an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree during the advanced degree ceremony.
