No. 6 Michigan State (18-3, 9-1 Big Ten) hosts Indiana (12-9, 3-7 Big Ten) Saturday night in a primetime ESPN matchup. Archie Miller’s Hoosiers started the season strong, but have been in free fall in Big Ten play, losing seven straight. 

While freshman Guard Romeo Langford and senior Forward Juwan Morgan pack an impressive scoring punch, injuries and off-court drama have decimated this team.

While Indiana has junior guard Devonte Green back from a three-game suspension to face Michigan State, their offense has simply not been up to snuff. Langford and Morgan have not been afforded room to work offensively, because the Hoosiers are shooting 25 percent from the three in conference play. In addition, Indiana struggles to move the ball effectively, placing last in the Big Ten in assists at 13.3 per game.

The Spartans are coming off a loss last Sunday at Purdue, and the news that broke Wednesday that junior guard Joshua Langford will miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his left foot. Junior guard Kyle Ahrens is considered a game-time decision for Saturday’s game with a back injury, meaning freshman Aaron Henry will likely get another start, with fellow freshman Gabe Brown expected to play more minutes.

The injury to Joshua Langford may hurt the Spartans down the road, but right now, everything is going wrong for this Hoosiers team. They have not been able to consistently score the ball, and against Michigan State’s stingy defense, expect a lot of one-on-one basketball from Romeo Langford and Morgan. Senior guard Matt McQuaid will likely guard Langford, expected to be a lottery pick this June, but with lots of help from the weak side, as the Spartans won’t respect Indiana’s ability to make open shots.

Indiana leads the all-time series 68-55, while MSU leads the series in East Lansing, 38-22. The Spartans swept the Hoosiers last season in two meetings.
