The City of East Lansing will close portions of Abbot Road and Albert Avenue over Michigan State's spring break to complete utility work for the Center City project.

The following closures will be in effect March 4-10:

  • Abbot Road from Grand River Avenue to Albert Avenue
  • The westbound lane of Albert Avenue from Grove Street to Albert Avenue

Travelers headed south on Abbot Road will be detoured to Oakhill Avenue, while those headed northbound will be detoured to M.A.C. Avenue.

Workers will begin the utility project Monday morning, and end it Sunday, March 10, at 8 p.m.

On March 9, Abbot Road will be reopened temporarily to allow for game-day traffic at 2 p.m., then close again the next day.

Access to the Grove Street parking garage will be available from Linden Street and the westbound lane of Albert Avenue. Pedestrian and business access will still be available during construction, and city officials will meet business owners to discuss the road closures, plans for deliveries and parking.

The city provides construction information alerts at East Lansing Buzz or by texting “ELBUZZ” to 38470.
