Former Michigan State linebacker Chris Frey Jr. announced he is back in football after signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League Tuesday via Twitter.

Other former Spartan football players who currently play in the CFL also include Johnny Adams, Arjen Colquhoun, B.J. Cunningham, J'Michael Deane, Sean Harrington and Mitchell White

Frey played four years at MSU from 2013-17. While he was a Spartan, Frey record 193 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 7.0 sacks and five fumble recoveries. In 2017, he was voted the team captain along with Brian Allen.

Off the field, he was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. After the team's victory at the Holiday Bowl against Washington State, Frey was also named the bowl's Defensive MVP.

Frey spent the 2018 preseason on the Carolina Panthers roster but was cut before the season began.
