After a loss to Ohio State last Saturday, Michigan State football falls out of the third edition of the College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings Tuesday evening.

The then-18th-ranked Spartans (6-4, 4-3 in Big Ten) fell 26-6 to the 10th-ranked Buckeyes (9-1, 6-1), ending a two-game winning streak against Purdue and Maryland, that helped them go from unranked to ranked in the second edition of the CFP rankings.

MSU also fell out of the AP Top 25 writers poll Sunday, after being ranked No. 24 following the two-game winning streak, but did receive 31 votes. The Spartans remained unranked in this week's coaches' poll.

In the Big Ten, the Buckeyes remained No. 10, while Michigan (9-1, 7-0) stayed at No. 4. But, Northwestern (6-4, 6-1), who clinched the Big Ten West last week after beating then-No. 21 Iowa (6-4, 3-4) 14-10, went from unranked to No. 22, while Penn State (7-3, 4-3) moved up from No. 20 to No. 14 following a 22-10 win over Wisconsin (6-4, 4-3).

The Hawkeyes dropped out of this week rankings like MSU.
