MSU Homecoming parade road closures

The 2018 MSU Homecoming parade is slated to start at 6 p.m. on Oct. 5. The parade starts at the intersection of Abbot Road and Burcham Road and ends at the intersection of Farm Lane and Shaw Lane, according to a press release from the city of East Lansing.

The theme this year is “Celebrating Unwavering Courage.” Ernest Green — a member of the "Little Rock Nine" who integrated Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1957 — is this year's Grand Marshal.

Starting at noon on Friday, the Hannah Community Center will be closed and the parking lot will be used for parade staging. The East Lansing Public Library will also be closed on Friday.

Closures from 2:30 to 7 p.m.

  • Abbot Road, between Oxford Road/Whitehills Drive and Burcham Drive;
  • Centerlawn Avenue, from Forest Street to Abbot Road;
  • Evergreen Avenue, from Centerlawn Avenue to Northlawn Avenue;
  • Forest Street, from Centerlawn Avenue to Northlawn Avenue;
  • Fern Street, from Evergreen Avenue to Abbot Road;
  • Northlawn Avenue, from Forest Street to Abbot Road.

Closure from 3 to 7:15 p.m.

  • Burcham Drive, between Old Hickory Lane and Abbot Road.

Closures from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m.

  • Abbot Road, between Burcham Drive and Grand River Avenue;
  • Grand River Avenue, between Abbot Road and the Collingwood Drive entrance to the MSU campus. 

These times are approximations, according to the press release. Roadways will re-open as the parade passes.
