Albert Avenue, between Abbot and Grove, to be closed for 6 weeks

Demolition of buildings along Grand River Ave continues on December 5, 2017.
Demolition of buildings along Grand River Ave continues on December 5, 2017.

Both lanes of Albert Avenue, from Abbot Road to Grove Street, will be closed starting May 7.

The closure is expected to last six weeks as the city undertakes projects to repair the road and upgrade underground utilities in preparation for a finished Center City redevelopment project.

Once the full closure is over, the westbound lane on Albert Avenue will reopen. However, the eastbound lane will still be closed between Abbot and M.A.C. Avenue as construction continues at Center City.

Improvements to bike lanes, sidewalks, and alleyways in the area will continue once the road reopens sometime in June. However, the city will do these projects in phases so pedestrians can still visit businesses in the area throughout the summer.

Phase one of the sidewalk work will be at the south end of the 7-Eleven at Albert and Grove, phase two will be in front of Harper's Restaurant and Brew Pub, and phase three will complete the work in front of Menna's Joint and Black Cat Bistro.

Center City construction continues on, as concrete is being poured for the second floor of Center City's parking deck, according to East Lansing Buzz, the city's website for construction information.

City officials encouraged community members to visit the site for continuing updates on all of the major redevelopment projects around town.
