While football gears up for its annual spring game, several familiar faces will take hold of the practice field at the Skandalaris Football Center.

Former center Brian Allen, linebacker Chris Frey, defensive end Demetrius Cooper, running back Gerald Holmes and kicker Brett Scanlon will attend football’s annual Pro Day Friday, an MSU athletics spokesperson confirmed Thursday afternoon.

Testing starts at 1:15 p.m. and will conclude at approximately 3 p.m.

Altogether, the five prospects played a combines 206 career games at MSU. Frey leads with 52 games, Allen and Cooper with 51, Holmes with 39 and Scanlon with 13, all played in 2017.

Frey and Allen were voted as the lone captains on the 2017 team. Holmes rushed for 287 yards on 79 carries for one touchdown. Scanlon handled kickoff duties, and Cooper had a career-high 29 tackles along with being tied for a team-high in forced fumbles with two in 2017. Frey also led the Spartans with three fumble recoveries, which was tied for first in the Big Ten and tied for fourth in all of college football.

Currently, Allen is the only player projected to be drafted, according to NFL.com. The Hinsdale, Illinois native is predicted to go in the sixth round at the earliest, and a projected free agent at the worst.

Quarterback Brian Lewerke said before the first spring practice on Feb. 27 that he thinks Allen “deserves” to go high in this year’s draft.

“I mean, he was the MVP of our offense last year,” Lewerke said. “I feel like he was the one who knew the reads. He got the O-line all situated. I feel like he’s kind of being looked down upon because of his size. But I prefer to see him as a high draft kind of guy.”

According to an NFC area scout on Allen’s draft page on NFL.com, Allen is referred to as “The Bully of the Big Ten.”

“He’s got that alpha mentality because he comes from that kind of family,” the scout said. “He might get drafted late but he'll make a team.”
