After leading in the last two innings of the game, the Wolverines would respond back in the top of the ninth to take the game back.

The 6-15 Spartans fell to the 11-11 Wolverines in the second meeting in a row in their three-game weekend series, 3-1.

“Proud of the way that Ethan [Landon] competed,” head coach Jake Boss Jr. said. “He certainly deserved better and that’s what you like to see out of your senior leader.”

Redshirt senior right-handed pitcher Ethan Landon looked to earn his first win of the season after pitching eight straight innings before being replaced by sophomore left-handed pitcher Mitchell Tyranski, but ended up getting the loss.

Landon struck out nine and allow four hits in 129 pitches.

“I thought he was throwing extremely well,” Boss said. “He got up there in his pitch count and I trust him. They way that he had thrown today our insight is always 20/20. He certainly gave us a chance to win.”

Sophomore outfielder Danny Gleaves scored the lone run for the Spartans after sophomore infielder Bryce Kelley bunted him in the bottom of the seventh inning.

U-M’s sophomore outfielder Christian Bullock scored the first run for the Wolverines after junior infielder Blake Nelson made it to second base via an error made by the Spartans.

In the first five innings, the Spartans only had three hits with both teams struggling to score any runs until the bottom of the seventh inning.

Junior third basemen Marty Bechina had a chance to get a run for the Spartan in the bottom of the second with senior designated hitter Chad Roskelly on first, but sophomore second basemen Bailey Peterson flied out getting Roskelly out on fielder’s choice on second base.

The Spartans will head back to Ray Fisher Stadium in Ann Arbor to take on the Wolverines in the final game of their series with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.

"We need to play faster and it turned out it didn't matter," Boss said. "At the same time, it's a momentum swing for sure. Again they executed in spots in the ninth inning and we didn't."
