Sophomore forward Miles Bridges was named one of the 20 finalists for the John R. Wooden Award by the Los Angeles Athletic Club Monday.
The list of candidates will be narrowed down to 15 prior to the NCAA Tournament.
Bridges selected as finalist for Wooden Award
The award, named after the Hall of Fame coach who led UCLA to 10 championships, recognizes the top players in Division I men's basketball.
The Wooden Award is one of several Bridges is in contention for, as the Flint-native was also selected to the midseason watch lists for the Oscar Robertson Trophy last month and for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year award. Before the season, Bridges was also selected to the watch list for the Naismith Player of the Year award, which recognizes the national player of the year.
Bridges is averaging 17.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and just more than one block per contest. He is the only player in the country averaging at least 17 points, seven rebounds, 2.9 assists, and one block per game.
No. 4 MSU will face off against Iowa Tuesday night. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m.
