Hollis is in violation of several sections of his contract, which was obtained by The State News. On Friday, ESPN's Outside the Lines released a report detailing how sexual assault cases have been handled within the MSU Athletic Department.

The investigative piece found that Hollis' department often dealt with sexual assault complaints involving athletes.

Section 1.2 of Hollis’ contract states: “The University requires that the Athletic Director disclose facts such as professional misconduct or sanctions (such as NCAA violations), any formal employment disciplinary action, any civil rights violation that he/she admitted or was determined by a court or other adjudicative process to have committed (e.g., sexual or racial harassment or discrimination), any serious crime for which he/she was convicted or pled no contest, and any impropriety involving a student.”

Section 2.2 of Hollis’ contract states: “In the event that the Athletic Director becomes aware or has reasonable cause to believe that either he or another individual has or may have violated the Governing Rules, he shall take prompt remedial action and shall immediately make any necessary and appropriate reports.”

According the OTL report, 16 football players have been accused of sexual assault or violence against women since head football coach Mark Dantonio’s tenure began in 2007.

Men's basketball head coach Tom Izzo was also named in the report.

According to the report, “Never-before-publicized reports of sexual or violent incidents involving members of Izzo’s storied basketball program, including one report made against a former undergraduate student-assistant coach who was allowed to continue coaching after he had been criminally charged for punching a female MSU student in the face at a bar in 2010.” 

Hollis announced his retirement Friday in a meeting at 1855 Place, two days after OTL reached out to MSU spokesperson Jason Cody and the MSU sports information department for comment.

According to Hollis’ contract, the former MSU Athletic Director is still eligible to receive two complimentary stadium tower passes for the football season, upon its expiration.
