MSU Police and the East Lansing Police Department received a letter with general threats against MSU athletic events, according to a press release from the City of East Lansing.
There are no specific details about which events are threatened or the manner of the threats.
"Both police departments are working in conjunction with additional law enforcement agencies to investigate the origin and validity of these statements," the release said.
The case is an active investigation.
"Citizens and members of the campus community are urged to remain vigilant of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately," the release said.
Athletic Director Mark Hollis released a statement saying that it is always important to be cautious in every situation.
"The safety and well-being of everyone who attends Michigan State athletic events including fans, student-athletes, coaches and workers, alway has and always will be our first priority," Hollis said in a statement.
