A pickup truck crashed into the blighted buildings of the Park District Project, adding another chapter to the saga of the buildings.

Around 9:56 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27, a Dodge Ram pickup truck failed to navigate a turn onto Abbot Road from westbound Grand River Avenue, East Lansing Police Deputy Chief Steve Gonzalez said.

The truck was driven by a 28-year-old East Lansing man, who sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Sparrow Hospital.

“There was significant damage to the building but there wasn’t any threat to the building falling down or danger to the public in the immediate area,” Gonzalez said.

The building is scheduled to be torn down at 7 a.m., Oct. 7.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, and it is currently under investigation, Gonzalez said.
