MSU Basketball to honor Jud Heathcote

September 6, 2017

The Michigan State athletic department announced yesterday that they will honor the late head coach Jud Heathcote in a variety different ways this upcoming season.

The basketball team will honor him by wearing a patch throughout the season. The patch will be unveiled in the near future. The team will also hold a tribute game on Feb 10 against Purdue with former players to be in attendance.

“Jud might be gone, but he will live on as a part of our basketball program and our university as we dedicate the upcoming season to his memory,” said MSU head coach Tom Izzo. “Every time we take the court, the patches on the uniforms will remind us of the man who set a great foundation for anything we accomplish now.

A moment of silence was held for Heathcote before the kick-off of the Spartan Football Team’s home opener.

Heathcote’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept 23 at 2 p.m. PDT at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington. Izzo, who served as an assistant for him will attend to represent Michigan State.
