The American Volleyball Coaches Association, or AVCA, has named MSU volleyball head coach Cathy George to its Board of Directors.

George, who has been MSU's head volleyball coach for more than a decade, will serve a three-year term as the Awards Representative and chair of the Division I AVCA All-America committee. George has been heavily involved in the All-America selection process since being named to the committee in 2014, and now she will serve as chair.

The head coach led the Spartans to a 25-9 season in 2016, which included an NCAA Tournament appearance. George has accumulated a total of 597 career wins and in 1989 was the first woman to lead an NCAA Division I program to the NCAA semifinals, while she was coaching UT-Arlington.

George has coached 18 All-Big Ten selections, 13 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars and five Big Ten All-Freshman selections.
