The MSU baseball team unveiled its schedule for the 2017 season, according to a press release. The 53-game slate will begin on Feb. 17 when the team travels to Abilene, Texas to take on Abilene Christian University in a four-game series. In the regular season, 14 of the 53 games will be against teams that competed in the NCAA Tournament last season.

The first 17 game for the Spartans will be played away from home. Their 18th game will be their home opener, as they host Central Michigan University on March 22 at Kobs Field.

For the early part of the schedule, the team will travel to Greenville, S.C. where they will play four different teams from March 3-8. From March 3-5, MSU will be a participant in the First Pitch Invitational playing against Furman University, Presbyterian College and the University of Tennessee at Martin. On March 8, the team will also face off against Clemson University as part of the regular season.

Among its in-state foes, MSU will play CMU, Eastern Michigan University, and Western Michigan University as part of its non-conference schedule. Also, for the first time in regular season play, the Spartans will play Fresno State University, previously playing the Bulldogs in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Following the home opener against the Chippewas, the Spartans will open Big Ten conference play just a few days later when they travel to Champaign, Ill. to play Illinois. In 2016, MSU posted a 36-20 overall record with a 13-11 mark in conference play.

MSU will play the University of Michigan on different occasions throughout the season. The first matchup will be on April 18 in Ann Arbor, which will be considered a part of non-conference play. The second time these teams will hook up is in a home-and-home-and-home series, which also concludes regular season play for the Spartans. In the series, the Spartans host the Wolverines May 18 and 20, while the game on May 19 will be played on U-M's home diamond.

The Big Ten Tournament will be played May 24-28, with the site yet to be determined. The College World Series is slated for June 17-28 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb.
