MSU football will hold a walk-on tryout meeting on at 4 p.m. on Sept. 12 in the Pentecost Team Meeting Room inside the Skandalaris Football Center.

In order to be eligible for the meeting and tryout, MSU students must meet the following requirements:

  • Be registered in 12 credit hours as a full-time MSU student and be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.5.
  • Be declared eligible by the NCAA clearinghouse.
  • Be prepared to pass tests for any performance-enhancing and/or street drugs.
  • Be able to pass any background check

According to a press release from MSU Athletics, those trying out are encouraged to have playing experience as a varsity member of their high school football team and be able to provide a recommendation from a high school coach. They also should be able to provide video for evaluation purposes.

Students are also recommended to have results from a recent physical examination from either their personal family doctor or the Olin Health Center. The examination must have occurred within the past six months.

The meeting is informational, and if all goes well for students in the meeting they will be called back for a tryout with the team. Notable MSU football walk-ons include former first-round NFL draft picks Jack Conklin and linebacker Kyler Elsworth, who made the infamous fourth-down stop during the Rose Bowl against Stanford.

Students with any questions are asked to contact the MSU football office at 517-355-1647.
