MSU will enter its bye week ranked No. 8 in the nation following the release of the USA Today Amway Coaches Poll Tuesday afternoon.

After starting the year ranked No. 11 in the coaches poll, MSU's harder-than-expected victory over Furman didn't cost them any slippage, largely because of two top 10 teams falling during week one.

The top five adds a new member to the group as Stanford moves up two slots to No. 5.

No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Clemson remain the nation’s top two teams while Florida State, previously No. 4, moves up to third, followed by No. 4 Ohio State University up from the fifth slot.

With the addition of MSU and No. 10 Iowa, the top 10 now has four Big Ten teams amongst its ranks — the most of any conference.

MSU’s next opponent, No. 21 Notre Dame, fell in double overtime to Texas, vaulting Texas from unranked to No. 20. The Fighting Irish’s loss sent them plummeting from the No. 9 ranking.

No. 7 Houston shot up six spots from No. 13 following their victory over the now ranked No. 13 Oklahoma Sooners. The Sooners fell from the No. 3 spot in this week's poll.

No. 16 Wisconsin broke into the rankings following its victory over LSU. LSU was ranked No. 6 entering the game, but the loss to the Badgers sent them down the ladder to No. 22.

With the addition of Wisconsin, the Big Ten has five teams within the Top 25.

The Top 25 are as follows:

  1. Alabama
  2. Clemson
  3. Florida State
  4. Ohio State University
