Former MSU star Appling arrested for third time in four months

Former MSU basketball point guard Keith Appling was arrested Sunday night in Detroit, marking the third time he has been arrested in four months.

According to WWJ reports, the Detroit native was pulled over around 9 p.m. by police for failing to signal while driving. The minor violation however mounted into Appling, according to police, fleeing the scene in his vehicle and throwing a weapon from the car.

According to The Detroit News, officers detected the smell of marijuana coming from Appling's car. Appling fled the scene shortly after the officers requested to see Appling's license.

The officer making the stop caught up to Appling not long after and according to the News, arrested him without incident for fleeing and eluding and carrying a concealed weapon.

Further the Detroit News reported officers were unable to find marijuana in the car but did find the weapon, concealed in a bag, in the road upon backtracking Appling's attempted evasion route.

The weapon was a Berreta with 10 live rounds according to the News. According to Fox2News, Appling posses a medical marijuana card.

The former Michigan Mr. Basketball was arrested in May for bringing a loaded AK47 assault rifle into a strip club in Dearborn.

Appling, 24, was arrested in June as well following a traffic stop in which officers found Appling trying to hide a gun in his brother's vehicle according to Local4News.

Appling competed for Tom Izzo and the Spartans from 2010-2014 and went undrafted in the 2014 NBA draft. He's since appeared sparingly in games for the Orlando Magic.
