Flash storm in East Lansing causes mayhem

A storm affecting the East Lansing area and Ingham County, which seemed to spring up almost instantly and disappear in 10 minutes, caused mayhem Friday afternoon. 

Twitter accounts and Snapchat stories from the area are filled with storm damage, and firetrucks can be heard racing throughout the city. 

Power outages were reported across Ingham County, according to an alert sent out Friday afternoon.

The East Lansing Police Department and extra East Lansing Department of Public Works crews were called in to help with the damage caused by the storm, according to a release sent out by the City of East Lansing. 

Residents noticing downed trees blocking the streets are instructed to call ELPD's non-emergency line at (517) 351-4220, option one. They are also instructed to stay away from down power lines.

Cleanup of debris in yards will being on Monday. 

MSU police and East Lansing police were not immediately available for comment on the extent of the damage.
