The growing chain has two other locations currently up and running at Waverly Road and St. Joseph Street in Lansing which opened earlier this year and East Michigan Avenue in Lansing.

Tabooli on Grand River has been projected to open several times this year but has yet to open its doors.

“The opening is entirely out of our control because of construction, licensing and approvals from the city," co-owner of Tabooli Fathy Shetiah said. He co-owns the chain with his brother Mohammad, the two run operations together.

Shetiah said they hope to be open before school starts in the fall. The building and restaurant is currently under construction and preparing for opening, he said.

"It’s very uncertain to even get a date, but from our perspective we’re moving as fast as we can," Shetiah said.

With already two successful businesses, Shetiah said they wanted to continue expanding.

“We get a lot of people even from day one that are already thinking that we’re a chain,” Shetiah said. “They like the feel from the beginning.”

Moving to the college town market next to Lansing was just a matter of time, he said.

“The concept is going to be really fitting for the younger crowd because the concept is very young and very new," Shetiah said.

Shetiah said the restaurant's concept on healthier food with a reasonable price and on-the-go style will be embraced by the college crowd.

The mediterranean-style eatery serves quick bites ranging from shawarma to falafel.

Shetiah said word of mouth has helped aid the successes of the other shops and it will hopefully do the same for the new shop.

“We wanted to be the next popular place for college kids and the younger generations,” Shetiah said. “We’re hoping that they continue encouraging us grow.”

He said that continuing growth will be a goal, and if they see success in East Lansing possibly even other college towns will be next.

“The validation that this is the right target market for us is huge,” Shetiah said.
