The MSU women's golf team has earned a bid to the NCAA Regionals for the 17th time in 18 seasons, after missing the tournament for the first time since 1998 last season.

The Spartans will be a No. 11 seed and will play in the Stanford Regional at the Stanford Golf Course from from May 5-7.

"It feels great," MSU women's golf coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll said in a press release. Slobodnik-Stoll has coached MSU to the NCAA Regionals 17 times in her 19 seasons. "I've always wanted to go to Stanford. (Assistant coach) Aimee (Neff) had a chance to go out there last year, so she's a little bit more familiar with the surroundings. Going out west is always such a wonderful trip, there's so much to see and do. We're looking forward for the chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships, which is the ultimate goal.

"Without a doubt, we've proven to ourselves time and time again this year that we have a very solid team and we're capable of shooting under-par. Now for the next week, we just have to prepare and be ready to go."

The team is coming off a ninth place finish at the Big Ten Championships this past weekend. This season, the team has placed in the top five in six of its 10 tournaments. MSU is currently ranked 44th in the nation by Golfweek.

According to the press release, the NCAA Women's Golf Championships are divided into four regional sites and conclude with the finals May 20-25 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore. Each regional site hosts 18 teams and six individuals.

The top six teams and top three individuals not on those qualifying teams in each region advance to the finals. The regional tournament format is 54 holes through three days. Each team will have six golfers competing, with the top four counting toward the team score.
