Former MSU basketball player Marvin Clark Jr. has found a new home as it was announced Wednesday morning that Clark has officially signed with the St. John's basketball program.

Clark announced last month that he was going to transfer away from MSU after averaging just 9.7 minutes and 3.9 points per game as a sophomore last season. Clark will have to sit out next season per NCAA transfer rules, but will then have two more years of eligibility with St. John's.

“We are glad Marvin has decided to join our basketball family,” St. John’s Head Coach Chris Mullin said in a Red Storm press release. “He’s an experienced player with size, athleticism and a solid skill set. Marvin is a good fit for our program and we believe he will transition well into our style of play.”

Clark set an MSU freshman record playing in all 39 games as a true freshman before seeing his minutes take a small dip in his sophomore season. Over his two seasons Clark averaged 4.2 points on 51.9 percent shooting with 2.3 rebounds per game while making eight starts for MSU.

Clark struggled with injuries last season as he had foot surgery last September which kept him out for almost two months and slowed his development. Once Clark returned from his injury, it was clear it was tough for him to regain his form until later in the season.

Clark said he had an instant connection with the coaching staff at St. John's and that he hopes to be a part of building St. John's into a national contender.

“I had an immediate connection with Coach Mullin and the coaching staff,” Clark said. “I feel extremely comfortable moving forward at a place where I can be an integral part of the future success of the program.

“I look forward to taking on the challenge of joining this team and institution and helping to restore excitement in a program with such a rich basketball tradition," he said.
